Peak Performance start-up Silentmode Ltd, announces the successful close of their Pre-Series A funding round, launches Breathonics: a new “breathing workout” and biofeedback iOS app that combines breathwork with curated music to help users optimize their mental fitness, mood and productivity; reduce stress and heart rate.

New to Silentmode?

(Los Angeles: 22nd September 2020) Silentmode Ltd has successfully closed a Pre-Series A round from investors including impact group SAVEearth fund Ltd as well as experienced private angels and Brinc (HK’s premier Tech Incubator) taking their total funding to USD 1million. This round will continue to drive them on a mission to help 100 million people reduce their resting heart rate by 5% over the next 5 years.

Coinciding with the announcement of new funding, today Silentmode also launches their brand new iOS app, Breathonics. While most meditation apps follow a predictable formula, Silentmode aims to break the mold. Categorised as a workout app by Apple App Store, the app takes real time biometrics and helps gamify RHR (Resting Heart Rate) by suggesting the right workout at the right time.

The launch of the app could not have come at a more needed and more relevant time than right now: In 2020 during the 2020 pandemic, life has become increasingly hectic for many of us with stress levels at an all-time high. Pressure from competitive working environments both in the workplace and now at home, with the adoption of services like Zoom, have meant people switch off less and this has contributed to a rise in stress levels globally.

“The world has moved dramatically this year and the way in which we interact and exist has changed. This brings both benefits and challenges. The on-demand digital wellness industry has seen fast growth in 2020 and there’s an increasing need to help everybody reach their peak performance through mind and body workouts which support a preventive health lifestyle. Whether that’s mental preparation for intense knowledge work or winding down after a long day, it’s important everybody has the tools to activate balance when it matters most. We have seen depression double in some areas of the world especially for males between the age of 25–45 and it’s a worrying trend”, said CEO, Bradley Dowding-Young.

After suffering a workplace breakdown in 2016, Bradley and co-founder Jens H Nielsen set out on a mission to shortcut the input required to reset one’s nervous system. Where organic approaches to this problem can be found in meditation and mindfulness, Dowding-Young believes there is a faster, easier way to achieve the same results: “I grew up as the son of a yoga teacher and experienced the power of breathwork from an early age. Our goal is to take the science of the breath and combine that with a bio-harmonic, musical experience that is designed as a short workout. A preventative health solution that’s guided by leading experts, this is musical mental fitness training which is designed to drive balance, fast”.

Dowding-Young attributes Silentmode’s fast growth and traction with athletes and musicians to this formula: “80% of our audience are male which is unheard of in the mindfulness market. We never set out to appeal to this audience, but it became clear pretty quickly that there was a synergy with what we were doing and how we are packaging and delivering mental fitness workouts. We want to apply these simple rest and recovery principles and make them available to everyone.”

As with music’s ability to enhance the physical fitness experience, in turn increasing performance and mood, the same can be said with combining music with breathwork technique to optimize experience and effect. “The fact that a lot of people aren’t even aware you can burn calories whilst lying down, just by breathing in time to music, shows the immaturity of the market” adds Nielsen. “It’s possible to create a solution that will advise you on the best time to rest or breathe by looking at circadian rhythm, sleep amount and Resting Heart Rate.”

Wellness is a USD 4.2 Trillion market and with recent large acquisitions from Google (Fitbit) and the launch of AmazonHalo, Silentmode is poised to benefit from a change in people’s perception of health. Nielsen explains: “We see a similarity with brands like Peloton and recently acquired Mirror. By providing the hardware and a physical space to commit and train, we underpin our experience with a bio-feedback loop, it’s a solution that’s fast, impactful and fun. It’s an evidence-based way to help users improve their wellbeing using data insights and actionable trigger points”.

The just-completed funding will be used to grow their software solution and expand the number of trainers they bring to the platform. “With a profitable year 1 behind us and being on track for 110% YOY earnings growth in 2020, our goal is to become a sustainable business first and foremost,” says Dowding-Young. “This round allows us to continue to grow our MRR numbers without impacting the revenue from hardware which continues to grow.”
